Sky Room, OxfordOur house had a tall, narrow postwar extension when we bought it. I fitted in a bathroom and shower room, and designed a glazed studio/conservatory with a steep gabled roof to finish it off. The room faces the sunset and the Oxford Canal.

Conservatory, OxfordThe owners are keen gardeners who needed a comfortable indoor space which would still feel part of the outside. The joiner built a simple, carefully proportioned structure with a heated tile floor. The conservatory allows light and views into the basement kitchen through a lightwell with Japanese planting |

Garden Room, ChiswickThis 1950s house faces directly onto the Thames towpath, but it was short of space on the ground floor. An extension with plenty of windows and rooflights now links it to the garden.

Town House, OxfordCouncil parking constraints obliged the owners to provide off road parking behind this new terrace house, reached by a carriageway under the building. This leaves a very narrow ground floor, whose lighting is improved by a glass brick wall and a rooflight over the staircase. The full width first floor provides a living room with a projecting bay window to catch the sunlight. This house is being built to meet the strict current regulations on sound insulation, heating and disabled access. |
